Allan Joseph Jurcina Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Allan Jurcina on April 6th, 2024. Born in New Waterford, Allan was the son of Andrew (deceased) and Joan (Prior) Jurcina.

Allan was born and raised in Cape Breton and was truly proud of his island heritage. He was a friend or acquaintance to everyone he met and was never shy to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. If it could talk, he was talking to it. He loved to spin a yarn and was never short of a story or memory to help capture his audience, if only for a moment.

Of the many dear people in Allan’s life there were none he loved more than his four grandchildren. “Papa Al’s taxi” was always in service no matter the time night or day. Allan doted on his grandchildren and was an integral part of their lives whether it be at the rink or supporting them in the many other activities they were involved in.

Allan leaves behind his longtime partner Priscilla Reid and stepdaughters Crystal (Michael) Howley, Ashley (Adam “Bull”) Walker and grandchildren Brooklyn and Blayke Howley;and Brody and Ryder Walker; Allan is predeceased by his father Andrew and leaves behind his loving mother Joan, sisters Helen Jurcina, Susie (Dan) Nightingale and brother John (Marie) Jurcina as well as nieces Kristen, Kassia Jurcina; nephews Jordan, Jacob Jurcina and Kyle, Zachary Nightingale. Allan will also be dearly missed by his beloved four-legged companion “Nova” who was like a shadow to him.

Memorial donations in Allan’s Memory may be made to the Cape Breton SPCA, or local animal charity of choice.

As per Allan’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of McLellan Funeral Home 3188 Plummer Ave, New Waterford where a  private family service will take place with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy, photos and words of comfort may be shared on Allan’s Tribute Wall.

Allan leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

May he rest in eternal peace
