Peter Baylis

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Teamsters Local 927 announces the passing of Brother Peter Baylis, a proud Teamster and dedicated UPS employee, at the age of 62 on November 12 2025.

We lost a true Halifax icon this week. Peter was a Package Car Driver for UPS and a worker who dedicated his life to his craft as a musician, singer, and performer. For decades, he was a pillar of the Halifax culture as a Entertainer and of course, as the voice of the Halifax Mooseheads for 15 seasons.

Peter would always be entertaining his colleagues and fellow Teamsters with stories and songs, regardless of the hardship of the day for anyone. He would always leave people smiling with his songs.

He was a man who showed up for his community. Now, it’s our turn to show up for his family.

Peter’s story, as shared by his family, is a devastating reminder of why we, as union members, fight so hard for what we have. Reading that Peter and his wife, Jennifer, were facing financial hardship, with a mortgage to pay and a life insurance policy that expired just one month before his diagnosis, is a gut punch to every working family.

A medical catastrophe should never mean financial ruin.

This is why we fight. It’s why we stand on picket lines for pensions. It’s why we negotiate for strong, reliable disability and life insurance policies. It’s why we demand benefits that protect us and our families from the worst case scenarios so no one is left facing the unimaginable, unprotected.

The community’s response, raising over $64,000 for the Baylis family, is a beautiful example of solidarity in action. It’s what we do as union brothers and sisters, we pass the hat, we support our own, and we lift each other up.

Peter’s wife Jennifer said, “He did good. He really did care.”

That’s the legacy we all hope to leave. Our hearts are with the Baylis family during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Brother Baylis.

In Solidarity,

The Executive Board of Teamsters Local 927 and all of our Brothers and Sister Teamsters at UPS Halifax.
