It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Teamsters Local 927 announces the passing of Brother Derek Evans Nauss, a proud Teamster and dedicated UPS employee, at the age of 58 on August 7, 2024, at the Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 9, 1966, in Saint John, New Brunswick, to Carol and Terrence Nauss, Derek was a steadfast and valued member of the Teamsters family. He began his remarkable 35-year career with United Parcel Service (UPS) in both Ontario and Nova Scotia, excelling as both a Feeder and Delivery Driver. Derek dedicated many years to his role as a Teamsters Union Steward, tirelessly advocating for his brothers and sisters in the workplace. His commitment to fairness and solidarity made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Derek is survived by his parents, Carol and Terrence; his brother Terry (Wanda); niece Cheryl (John); daughters Aimee and Brie-ann; grandchildren London and Mila; grand nieces Lennon and Elsie; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends and colleagues. He is predeceased by his daughter Crystal, along with his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Outside of work, Derek found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was riding his motorcycle, debating the best plate of chicken wings (Franks hot sauce only!), or sharing a glass of rum and Pepsi, he approached life with a spirit of camaraderie and humor that will be deeply missed.
We invite you to honor Derek’s memory by raising a glass and sharing a story of the good times you had with him. He embodied the core values of the Teamsters: strength, integrity, and a commitment to bettering the lives of those around him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and palliative care team at Dartmouth General Hospital, as well as the compassionate staff from Northwood Continuing Care, for their kindness and support during Derek’s final months.
Cremation has taken place, and per Derek’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Please visit the online obituary at Donald K. Walker Funeral Home to share condolences and memories of our beloved Brother Derek.
Rest in power, Brother Derek. You will always be remembered as a proud Teamster and an advocate for fairness and solidarity.
